BlueCross Chief Medical Officer Honored with Top 25 Minority Executives in Healthcare Recognition from Modern Healthcare

CHATTANOOGA – BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee is proud to announce that senior vice president and chief medical officer Dr. Andrea Willis was recognized by Modern Healthcare as one of 2018’s Top 25 Minority Executives in Healthcare. The profiles of all the winners were featured in the February 26 print issue of Modern Healthcare and can be found online at ModernHealthcare.com/Top25Minorities.

In its seventh edition, the biennial recognition program honors the top minority healthcare executives who are influencing policy and care delivery models across the country. In doing so, they are also highlighting the continued need to nurture diversity in our organizations.

“From leaders of health systems who are actively working to make sure that communities of color have access to affordable and high-quality healthcare to heroes who protected victims of natural disasters and violent protests, this year’s Top 25 Minority Executives in Healthcare exemplify resilience and tenacity,” said Modern Healthcare Editor Aurora Aguilar. “These leaders have produced incredible results by elevating the quality of patient care at their organizations while supporting and advancing their peers to boost diversity in the C-suite. As Modern Healthcare’s first Latina editor, I take special pride in this program and look forward to seeing the Top 25 and the 10 to Watch honorees grow in their roles and their influence.”

Dr. Willis was recognized for leading efforts to improve the quality of care BlueCross members receive. She oversees the company’s initiative to combat the opioid crisis in the state and has also led efforts to partner with churches to develop a series of health screening events across Tennessee. As part of her commitment to support community health, she serves on the NashvilleHealth governing board and the Governor’s Foundation for Health and Wellness.

“We are so pleased to see Dr. Willis honored in this way,” said BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee chief operating officer Scott Pierce. “Her passion and commitment to advancing a culture of health are truly exceptional, and it is a privilege to work with her to improve the lives of those we serve.”
