Better health, stronger communities
One way we support the well-being of our neighbors is by providing opportunities for connection and healthy activity. The BlueCross Healthy Place program creates and revitalizes public spaces across the state, strengthening the bonds that form the backbone of our communities. And that’s why it’s the primary funding focus of the BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee Foundation. In 2024, we celebrated project openings in Dayton and Tiptonville. Construction also continued at the BlueCross Healthy Place at Founders Park, being completed in partnership with the National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis. The project will bring museum visitors and community members together for contemplation and reflection.

Supporting health at any age
For more than 40 years, BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee has sponsored the Tennessee Senior Olympics, which encourage senior citizens from around the state to stay active and live a healthy lifestyle. We provide financial support and volunteers for the annual state finals, and we established the Hall of Fame program in 2017.

A new, fun place to explore
“As a BlueCross employee, I’m proud to see how our foundation invests in spaces that foster community pride and encourage residents to meet one another and live active, healthy lives.”

Supporting our members, supporting Tennessee
As a local, not-for-profit insurer, we pride ourselves on using our members’ premium dollars carefully and wisely. We not only pay for healthcare services, but we also strive to balance the rising cost of that care, providing our members with access to quality, affordable options.
On top of that, we’re based right here in Tennessee – which means the jobs, household income and revenue we generate support the communities where the majority of our members live and work.

The BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee Community Trust was established and funded in 1999. The Trust supports the work of nonprofit partners throughout the state, like Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the Ronald McDonald House.

The BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee Foundation was established in 2003, and its endowment was last funded more than a decade ago. The Foundation pays for the BlueCross Healthy Place program, along with the BlueCross Power of We Health Equity scholarships and other community-based initiatives.

Helping nonprofits serve our neighbors
“We’ve been working to increase our delivery efforts because, as the cost of food has gone up, the ability to access grocery stores has gone down,” said Kristen Reedy, Second Harvest development director. “This year’s support from the BlueCross Community Trust allowed us to increase the home delivery network from 100 to 140 clients.”

Doing our part for the environment
Supporting our neighbors and communities also means working to create a healthier environment. At BlueCross, we’re committed to sustainability, and our remote-first approach to work helped us make additional strides in our efforts throughout 2024.

TeamBlue volunteers
Our employees are committed to giving back. Each year, they donate thousands of hours of their time to support the causes and organizations that matter to them and help their neighbors. In-person and virtual volunteer opportunities make it possible for employees to participate in the ways that work best for them. In 2024, our TeamBlue volunteer activities included:
- donation drives
- letter-writing campaigns for senior citizens
- food bank sorting, stocking and distribution
- bunk bed builds for children in need
- charitable thrift store support.

Mission moment
Blake Weber, the 2024 TeamBlue Volunteer of the Year, enjoys giving back by serving as a small group leader at his church. “My goal has always been to serve my community and make a positive impact on the next generation,” he said.
“Volunteering with my church has given me the opportunity to guide these young people and show them how to be active members of their community.”
