$750,000 investment from BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee Foundation provides new community space
ALAMO, Tenn. — Residents of Alamo recently gathered for a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the grand opening of the BlueCross Healthy Place at Crockett County High School.
The Crockett County Board of Education applied for the BlueCross Healthy Place grant with the hope of creating a central community space for area residents.
Misty Bailey, Coordinated School Health Director for Crockett County Schools, said, “An up-to-date park is something Crockett County has been missing. Crockett County Schools Director Phillip Pratt recognized that need for our community, and we are so thankful to have received the BlueCross Healthy Place grant to begin filling that gap. The space is a wonderful feature, and we hope families will use it to get outside and enjoy being active together.”
Grant applicants were invited to choose from six project packages based on the needs of their communities. The Crockett County Board of Education selected the Community Hub package, and park visitors will enjoy the following features in the new space:
- Community pavilion
- Play area for ages 2-5
- Play area for ages 5-12
- Fitness stations
- Swing set
There are 15 BlueCross Healthy Places completed statewide, with more underway. To date, the BlueCross Foundation has invested $31.7 million in 17 community spaces across the state.
