BlueCross Names Hamilton Corporate Medical Director

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee has selected Dr. Ian Hamilton as a corporate medical director for all its lines of business.

In this role, Hamilton will consult and collaborate with providers across the state, and drive processes that support best medical value and improve the health of BlueCross members.

Hamilton came to BlueCross from a position as medical director for the government business division of Anthem (WellPoint) in Indianapolis.

A vascular surgeon by training, Hamilton earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and a medical degree from Albany Medical College. He completed a surgical residency and surgical internship at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. Hamilton also completed a residency/fellowship with Rush University Medical College in Chicago and a fellowship in vascular surgery and endovascular therapy at the University of Glasgow in Scotland. He holds a master’s degree in business administration from Auburn University.

Hamilton served in the U.S. Naval Reserve’s Medical Corps from 1989 to 2002, achieving the rank of lieutenant commander. Board certified in both general and vascular surgery, he is a Diplomat of the National Board of Medical Examiners and a Diplomat of the American Board of Surgery.

Hamilton is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American College of Physician Executives. He is also recognized as a Certified Physician Executive by the Certifying Commission in Medical Management.
