CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee has named John Hawbaker as its director of corporate communications.
In this role, Hawbaker leads a team responsible for internal and external communication strategies that reflect the mission-driven culture of BlueCross and its commitment to the health of the customers and communities it serves. He also serves as a key spokesperson for the company.
“John is a proven leader with extensive experience in employee communications, public affairs, media relations and social media,” said Scott Wilson, BlueCross vice president of corporate communications and community relations. “He has a long history of service to BlueCross, and we’re glad to have him overseeing our communications strategy.”
Hawbaker has been with BlueCross since 2007, when he began his career as a senior programmer in the eBusiness marketing team. In 2010, he moved to corporate communications, working as a communications specialist. Prior to being named director of corporate communications, he served as the company’s public affairs manager, expanding the company’s owned and social media efforts and launching the BlueCross News Center website.
He has a bachelor’s degree in management from Belhaven University.
