BlueCross Partners with the University Health Network on Lower-Cost Coverage for Individuals and Small Businesses

Knoxville-area Network L members will have access to UT Medical Center and affiliated physicians

CHATTANOOGA – BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee has chosen The University of Tennessee Medical Center (UTMC) and University Physicians’ Association (UPA) to serve as the anchor health provider for its Blue Network L, which is newly available in the Knoxville area to individuals and small employer groups seeking 2022 coverage.

Blue Network L is the lowest-cost BlueCross network, designed to offer members access to quality care and enhanced coordination of care as a way of lowering overall health care costs. In Knoxville, Network L members can receive primary and specialty care from UTMC and affiliated physicians as well as UPA providers. The network also covers telehealth from UTMC and UPA providers who offer it, along with 24/7 coverage from PhysicianNow powered by MDLive.

“We have long been proud to have UT Medical Center as a partner in serving Tennesseans, and we are excited to have them supporting our members in our newest network,” said Todd Ray, senior vice president of corporate provider network contracting and Medicare products for BlueCross.

Launched in the Memphis region on Jan. 1, 2021 as a partnership with Baptist Memorial Health System, Blue Network L will also expand into Nashville in 2022 in partnership with Ascension Saint Thomas facilities and doctors. Blue Network L members in the Memphis and Nashville areas also have access to primary and urgent care services via the Sanitas Medical Centers.

“UTMC, the areas only academic medical center, and its associated physicians are committed to providing value to BlueCross BlueShield members in the Knoxville area through the provisions of high-quality care at the lowest cost,” says David Hall, executive vice president at The University of Tennessee Medical Center.
