City of Cleveland and BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee Foundation Announce BlueCross Healthy Place at Greenway Park

Revitalized community space will include new amenities for connection and activity

CLEVELAND, Tenn. — Representatives from the City of Cleveland and the BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee Foundation recently gathered to announce the development of the BlueCross Healthy Place at Greenway Park.

BlueCross Healthy Places are designed to strengthen community connections by providing Tennesseans with spaces to get to know one another and enjoy healthy activity. The BlueCross Healthy Place at Greenway Park will reimagine an existing space and contain features requested by the city.

These will include linear park activations along the Greenway and a skate park, the first time each has been developed as part of a BlueCross Healthy Place project. Other amenities include:

  • Nature-themed inclusive play area
  • Splash area and playful stream
  • Duck observation deck

“We’re excited to begin work on a new BlueCross Healthy Place in Cleveland,” said Dalya Qualls White, executive director of the BlueCross Foundation. “We’re creating new ways for residents to connect on and around the Cleveland Greenway, and we know this project will leave a lasting impact on the community.”

“This reimagination of Greenway Park will be a once-in-a-generation opportunity for all Cleveland residents,” said Cleveland Mayor Kevin Brooks. “This park will be dedicated to Cleveland families who want fun, healthy lifestyles and great fellowship opportunities. Our friends at the BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee Foundation are amazing partners, and Cleveland appreciates this precious gift to our community. Let the fun begin!”

This is the first BlueCross Healthy Place in the Cleveland area, and to date, the BlueCross Foundation has invested $79 million in projects across Tennessee. There are 30 BlueCross Healthy Place projects open or in progress statewide with more on the way.

BlueCross Healthy Place projects are funded through the BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee Foundation’s endowment, not from the company’s current business operations. For more on the BlueCross Healthy Place program, see BlueCrossHealthyPlacesTN.com.
