$1 million investment from BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee Foundation revitalizes community space
RED BOILING SPRINGS, Tenn. — Residents of Red Boiling Springs recently gathered for a ribbon cutting to celebrate the grand opening of the BlueCross Healthy Place at Old Lake Road Park.
The City of Red Boiling Springs applied for the BlueCross Healthy Place grant with the hope of improving equipment and access in the well-loved community space. The BlueCross Foundation has invested more than $1 million total, including $900,594 in the project build and $180,118 in a maintenance fund.
The City of Red Boiling Springs applied for the BlueCross Healthy Place grant and shared the following in their application: “By expanding the health opportunities at an existing public space and creating new private-public partnerships, the BlueCross Healthy Place will provide the tools our community needs to take charge of its future wellness.”
Park visitors will enjoy the following features in the new space:
- Play areas for ages 2-5 and 5-12 with accessible, poured-in-place surfacing
- Fitness station
- Challenge course
- Artificial grass lawn
There are 18 BlueCross Healthy Places completed statewide, with more underway. To date, the BlueCross Foundation has invested $34.8 million in community spaces across the state.
