BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee Announces 2024 Health Plan Quality Star Ratings

Medicare Advantage earns 4.5 stars; Medicaid, BlueCare and commercial plans also earn high scores

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee (BlueCross) has announced its 2024 Health Plan Quality Star Ratings from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA).

The insurer’s Dual Special Needs Plan (DSNP) and Medicare Advantage (MA) plans each received 4.5 out of 5-star quality ratings from CMS.

BlueCare and commercial plans earned 4 out of 5 stars from NCQA. This year, BlueCross offers the only 4-star commercial Preferred Provider Organization plan in Tennessee.

“All of our Star awards are a direct result of the work our dedicated teams do throughout the year to gain and maintain our members’ trust and support – and the work we all do to ensure our customers receive exceptional service every day,” said Dr. Andrea Willis, BlueCross SVP and chief medical officer.

Todd Ray, senior vice president of government programs for BlueCross, added, “We know that our teams’ efforts and outreach to members make such a positive difference in the overall care they receive, and it’s gratifying to see that recognized by CMS.”

Every year, Medicare evaluates plans based on a 5-star rating system. Both CMS and NCQA award Stars based on comprehensive evaluations of multiple performance measures. These ratings reflect the quality of care and service provided by plans. Both rate performance based on clinical outcomes, patient experience, customer service and operational efficiency.

  • CMS: Ratings are derived from data collected through surveys, administrative data and clinical performance metrics.
  • NCQA: Ratings are derived from data collected through the Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS), the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) surveys and NCQA’s own accreditation standards.

Stars scores are included on Medicare Plan Finder, the CMS website where members can get information and compare plans.
