BlueCross Gearing up for Annual Riverbend Run and Walk

June 11 activities include two fun-run/walk events, new competition in 5K and 10K races

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — BlueCross Riverbend Run & WalkSM 2016 is scheduled for June 11 at the Riverbend Festival grounds along Riverfront Parkway. This year’s event includes 5K and 10K competitive races and 5K and one-mile fun-runs to benefit Children’s Hospital at Erlanger.

The 5K and10K competitive events have overall cash prizes in age/gender categories, and are on courses which are USA Track and Field certified. New this year is the “Sprint to the Finish” competition. The runners who complete the last half mile with the fastest time in the 5K and 10K races will receive cash prizes. The fun-runs are non-competitive events. Wheelchairs and strollers are welcome.

Costs for Riverbend Run participation are:

  • 5K and 10K races – $28
  • 5K fun-run  – $25
  • $5 discount for seniors over 60 and children under 12 in either event
  • one-mile fun-run and walk – $18

Race events start at 7:30 a.m. under the Olgiati (Hwy 27) Bridge. WRCB Sports Director Paul Shahen will be the race emcee.
