BlueCross Named One of America’s Best Employers

Forbes recognition highlights employee engagement and competitive benefits

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Forbes announced that BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee once again ranks among America’s Best Employers. BlueCross ranked no. 491 overall on the list of 500 large employers, making it one of 11 Tennessee companies included.

“We’re thankful for this national honor, which reflects our employees’ views on our mission-driven workplace,” said Karen Ward, senior vice president and chief human resources officer for BlueCross.

Forbes reports the top employers were chosen based on the results of an independent survey conducted among 30,000 American workers. Survey participants represented companies with more than 1,000 employees; they were asked how likely they were to recommend their employer to someone else as well as how they felt about other employers outside their industry.

“At BlueCross, we greatly value our employees,” Ward said. “We invest in our people in many different ways: through My BluePath – our award-winning career development program – and by offering competitive wages and family-friendly benefits, just to name a few.”

In recent months, BlueCross implemented a higher minimum wage for all starting employees, increased pay for many of its skilled nurses and added one of the state’s most competitive paid parental leave programs.

Forbes also recognized BlueCross in February as the nation’s no. 33 employer for diversity, placing it as the highest-ranking company based in Tennessee.
