Meet Blake Weber: The 2024 TeamBlue Volunteer of the Year

Each year, BlueCross employees give back to the organizations and causes that matter to them through our TeamBlue volunteer program.

In 2024, our employees spent over 17, 000 hours volunteering with more than 400 organizations across the state of Tennessee.

As a way of recognizing our volunteers’ contributions, employees who give at least 20 hours a year are entered into a drawing to be named our Volunteer of the Year.

Our 2024 TeamBlue Volunteer of the Year is Blake Weber, a Principal Analytics Engineer who has been with BlueCross for 13 years. We spoke to him about where he donates his time and what volunteering means to him.

Mentoring the next generation

In 2024, Blake spent his time volunteering at Ringgold First Baptist Church as a small group leader for middle school boys, a role he’s held for several years.

“My goal has always been to serve my community and make a positive impact on the next generation,” Blake says. “Volunteering with my church has given me the opportunity to guide these young people and show them how to be active members of their community.”

For the young men in his group, Blake is a support when they have questions or need someone to talk to. He understood the influence of mentors in his own life, and he knew it was how he wanted to give back.

“My favorite part is watching these kids grow up. They start as energetic middle schoolers and slowly transition into a mature version of themselves,” Blake says. “Being a part of their personal growth is incredibly rewarding.”

Volunteer of the Year

In December, Blake was selected as the 2024 TeamBlue Volunteer of the Year. In recognition of his service, he received a donation from the BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee Foundation to an organization of his choice. Blake chose to give his donation to the Chattanooga Football Club (CFC) Foundation, an organization dedicated to engaging and empowering young people in the community through soccer.

The organization runs two programs—Operation Get Active and Chattanooga Sports Ministries—that provide a safe place for play, mentorship, physical activity and leadership development.

“My son had the opportunity to play soccer with and against teams from Chattanooga Sports Ministries, and we’ve personally witnessed the positive impact this program has for young people both on and off the field,” Blake says.

Blake believes TeamBlue is an excellent resource for anyone looking to begin volunteering. “TeamBlue helps you find opportunities to volunteer, whether in person or online, making it accessible even for those who may not be able to volunteer physically,” Blake says. “With so many organizations and opportunities available, TeamBlue can help you find the perfect fit to start your volunteering journey.”
