On Jan. 13, 2025, a former vendor, Conduent Business Services LLC, learned they were a victim of a cybersecurity incident. Conduent immediately secured their networks, investigated the incident and notified law enforcement. Their investigation determined that between Oct. 21, 2024, through Jan. 13, 2025, an unauthorized third party had access to Conduent’s information on 10.5 million individuals.
BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee (BCBST) was notified in September that we are one of several Blue Cross Blue Shield companies with some member data included in the Conduent incident. On Nov. 5, Conduent notified us that a small number of our members were affected as part of our expired direct contract. We also have learned that a small number of our members were affected through other Blue Cross Blue Shield plans. Those other plans processed claims for BCBST members if our members sought health care in their service areas.
As of Dec. 16, we have been informed of fewer than 1,275 BCBST members that have been affected by this incident.
We take the job of protecting our members’ personal information seriously, and we’re sorry for any concern this causes. To help protect affected our members, we’re offering Experian’s IdentityWorks Credit 1B service at no cost to them. We included details on how to sign up for this free service in the letters that we mailed to those members. Members can also call BCBST for information on how to activate this service.
