BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee Medicare Advantage Earns 4.5 Stars in Latest Ranking

CMS survey for 2022 makes plan one of the best rated in the state, emphasizing member health outcomes and overall member satisfaction

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee’s Medicare Advantage PPO plan has earned a 4.5 out of 5-Star quality rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), marking the third consecutive year the plan has scored 4.5 or higher.

Every year, Medicare rates plans based on a 5-star rating system after reviewing their operations, customer surveys and enrollees’ health outcomes across several dimensions. Medicare Advantage plans with prescription drug coverage are rated on roughly 40 distinct quality and performance measures, which are weighted differently from year to year. The most recent ranking emphasized:

  • whether members received timely preventive screenings and health care;
  • how effectively members’ chronic health issues are managed; and
  • members’ overall satisfaction with their health plan and providers.

The BlueCross Medicare Advantage PPO plan again earned high rankings in several areas related to customer service and member outreach.

“We constantly evaluate our operations to better serve our members and connect one-on-one with the people we serve,” said Dianna Leun, director of quality improvement and STARS program for senior products at BlueCross. “We collaborate closely with health care providers to understand and anticipate needs whenever possible, because we know these efforts improve the member experience and help lead to greater wellbeing overall.”

The BlueCross Medicare Advantage team works alongside providers and members to find effective ways to help improve health outcomes. This work is always evolving and includes:

  • helping providers better document members’ care and health status and
  • supporting other provider workflow improvements designed to improve the overall care experience for plan members.

“We know that our teams’ efforts and outreach to members make such a positive difference in the overall care they receive, and it’s gratifying to see that recognized by CMS,” said Todd Ray, senior vice president of government programs for BlueCross.

Stars scores are included on Medicare Plan Finder, the CMS website where members can get information and compare plans.
