BlueCross Named “Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality”

Company achieves perfect score on Corporate Equality Index

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee earned 100 percent on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s 2019 Corporate Equality Index Survey, an achievement that includes designation as a Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality.

The annual survey is designed to report on organizational policies and practices related to workplace equality for individuals who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer. It is scored on a points-based system that analyzes a company’s workplace protections, inclusive benefits, and demonstrated support for an inclusive culture and corporate social responsibility.

BlueCross saw its score rose five points from its 2018 level as one of 571 organizations to be named to the 2019 ranking and it scored better than the average Fortune 500 survey participant.

“This achievement is the result of years of intentional effort from our board, executive leadership and employees,” said Ron Harris, BlueCross vice president of diversity and inclusion. “Our commitment to diversity makes us stronger as an organization, and we will continue to evolve and improve in ways that support all of the people we serve.”
