BlueCross Names Pierce Head of Government Business

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Scott Pierce has been appointed senior vice president for government programs, assuming strategic leadership of BlueCross’ participation in Medicaid managed care and Medicare Advantage products.

Pierce was previously president and CEO of BlueCare Tennessee, BlueCross’ Medicaid managed care subsidiary, a position he’d held since October 2011.

“Scott is a talented strategist, who will expand BlueCross’ opportunities in serving state and federal government customers, while being good financial stewards of taxpayer-supported programs,” said J.D. Hickey, BlueCross chief operating officer.

Pierce this year added Medicaid managed care consulting and administrative services to BlueCross’ portfolio through its subsidiary Shared Health.

Prior to joining BlueCross, Pierce worked in Tennessee state government, including five years as the chief financial officer and assistant commissioner for the Bureau of TennCare℠. A native of Knoxville, Pierce earned a bachelor’s degree in economics and a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Tennessee.
