Meeting our members at August appreciation events

At BlueCross, not only is your health important to us – we want to get to know you so we can better help you manage the care you receive and the options available to you.

It’s why we make efforts to travel in and out of the state and meet you where you are. Our goal is to provide opportunities to answer any questions about your benefits and make sure you’re aware of health incentives that are just a few clicks away.

On Saturday, Aug. 5, BlueCross held a member appreciation event in Chattanooga at Eastgate Mall, the second of five events scheduled for this month. Members were invited to:

  • explore booths dedicated to health-related vendors, products and services
  • drop off expired or unwanted medications as part of the Count it! Lock it! Drop it! initiative
  • tour the Blue of Tennessee mobile health center and meet with fully licensed health experts from BlueCross
  • learn about discounts available through our Blue365 program
  • enjoy free food and drinks, and receive T-shirts and other giveaways
Mobile Health Center services
Within the mobile health center, members can receive assistance with a variety of aspects of their coverage.

For members outside of the Chattanooga area, there are still three events to follow, beginning this Saturday, Aug. 12, in Nashville, followed by stops in Memphis and Maryville.

Going mobile

At 920 square feet, the mobile health center is equipped for preventive care screenings and staffed by BlueCross team members (including Spanish speakers and sign language interpreters). They can answer questions about care, claims and coverage and walk you through managing your benefits on BCBST.com. Plush seating and a privacy curtain (when needed) help create a comfortable environment where members are more at ease having one-one-one conversations with our team.

The mobile center mainly travels to worksites to serve employees on group plans – even those outside of Tennessee – but is present at these appreciation events for members on any type of plan who wish to speak with a BlueCross representative face to face.

“The primary goal of the center – and by extension, these events – is to help people who are not following or may not be aware of best practices related to their health care,” says James Marx, mobile health center manager.

“Members are always surprised by the size and capabilities of the unit. We tried to roll everything we possibly could into it as a convenient way to get our services out to people. All team members on site have their insurance licenses and are Medicare-certified.”

Year-round discounts

These membership events also provide an opportunity to promote the Blue365 program, available through BlueAccess. Upon signup, members can take advantage of discounts on health and wellness products from both national and local vendors.

“We’re organizing these events to help them enroll in BlueAccess and Blue365,” says Kimberly Clayton, insurance advisor, who on Saturday met with members alongside Shea Rudder, community care partner. “BlueAccess provides a wealth of information online, such as details about plans, available benefits, claims and deductible status, and access to Blue365 rewards.”

Answering member questions
Kimberly Clayton, insurance advisor, answers questions for a member inside the mobile health center.

Blue365 offers a wide range of discounts to nationwide companies such as Jenny Craig, Nutrisystem, Prime Fitness facilities, Reebok, Skechers Direct, Baby Bjorn and LasikPlus, to name a few.

Appreciation tour rolls on

Interested in attending an appreciation event? BlueCross members still have three opportunities this month:

“We thrive on interaction with our members,” James says. “We are fortunate to deal with people from all walks of life and hopefully help take a load off of their backs. When members are overwhelmed and not sure where to turn, we’re there.”
