Event honors minority students majoring in health care
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — A ceremony honoring the first recipients of a diversity scholarship offered by the BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee Community Trust was held Tuesday, June 11, at BlueCross’ corporate headquarters.
LaDarius Millen, a junior from the University of Memphis, and Shannetra McCutsheon, a junior from East Tennessee State University, were awarded the scholarships after completing a rigorous application process. Both students are majoring in the health care field.
The event also marks BlueCross’ first-ever diversity scholarship, which was funded by the BlueCross Community Trust and sponsored by the corporate diversity department in collaboration with the Memphis chapter of the National Association of Health Services Executives (NAHSE.
The scholarships, worth $5,000 each, are in recognition of outstanding achievements in community service, leadership and academics and are given to undergraduate students who wish to pursue careers in the health care field.
The awardees, along with their families, attended the ceremony, as did representatives from NAHSE.
