BlueCross Medicare Advantage PPO Plan Earns Fifth Consecutive 4-Star Quality Rating

CMS survey shows BlueCross is driving positive health outcomes and member experience

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee’s Medicare Advantage PPO plan has received a 4- out of 5-Star quality rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for a fifth consecutive year.

CMS issues its annual ratings following a review of member outcomes, plan operations, and customer surveys across 50 quality measures. The analysis considers:

  • members’ satisfaction with their health plan experience;
  • how well members’ chronic health conditions are controlled; and
  • whether members get recommended care and screenings in a timely fashion.

The BlueCross Medicare Advantage PPO received high rankings across multiple areas, earning its third consecutive 5-star rating for customer service. The plan also achieved a 5-star rating on members’ overall rating of their health plan. These measures are both part of the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems, which analyzes key elements of the consumer experience based on member feedback.

“We constantly look for new ways to improve our member experience and provide the education and support members need, when they need it,” said Todd Ray, senior vice president of senior products for BlueCross. “This achievement reinforces our commitment to making the health care experience more efficient and effective for our members.”

The BlueCross Medicare Advantage team works with providers and members in a variety of ways to continuously improve health outcomes. These efforts include:

  • Regular targeted outreach to pharmacists and clinicians across the state to identify and support members who may not take medications as directed
  • Enhancing data-sharing arrangements that increase the amount and quality of clinical information available to health care providers
  • Scheduling checkups or home-based assessments for members with transportation issues or limited mobility

Dr. J.B. Sobel, vice president and chief medical officer for senior products at BlueCross, said the organization’s half-decade track record of achievement is the result of a sustained focus on productive partnerships with network providers and a strategy centered on meeting members where they are in their health journey.

“We understand the value of empowering clinical staff with meaningful data that enables personalized, focused treatment at the point of care,” he said.  “Our number one priority is the health of those we serve, and because we are right here in Tennessee, we will continue to work with providers across the state to ensure members have access to affordable care that supports healthy, active lives.”
