BlueCross Names Gary Steele Vice President of Human Resources

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee has selected Gary Steele as vice president of human resources. In this role, he will be responsible for the direction and oversight of all human resources initiatives. This includes leading efforts to cultivate a talented, inclusive workforce and ensure employee engagement.

Steele has been with BlueCross for over 17 years. In his most recent role, he served as director of talent management and business consulting.

During his tenure, Steele has played an instrumental role in process improvements throughout the company. These included strategic workforce planning, developing a managed service provider program and improving succession planning methodology, all in support of the company’s strategic goal of workforce development.

“Gary makes it his priority to keep his finger on the pulse when it comes to employee engagement and satisfaction here at BlueCross,” said Karen Ward, senior vice president and chief human resources officer. “I look forward to seeing how his leadership will continue our successes in employee growth and development.”

Steele earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama in Huntsville. In 2001, he earned his Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification.
