UPDATE: BCBST Technology Systems Back Online Following CrowdStrike Outage

UPDATE – 6:33 P.M. EDT July 19, 2024:

BCBST systems that were affected by the worldwide CrowdStrike outage have now been restored, and customer service lines and other business systems are fully operational.

“We appreciate everyone’s patience as our teams worked to restore service, and we’re glad to be back up and running in support of our members, business customers and provider partners,” said SVP and chief communications officer Dalya Qualls White.

BlueCross will continue to work with members and providers impacted by the outage to coordinate care, process claims, and answer questions as needed.

Members who have health care services already scheduled should continue as planned or reach out to their health care provider with questions. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, please call 911 or visit your nearest ER.

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (July 19, 2024)Many of BCBST’s Information Technology (IT) systems are currently offline. This outage is related to a faulty update from cybersecurity provider CrowdStrike and is impacting Windows machines globally.

“Like many companies in Tennessee and around the world, some of our systems have been down as part of the CrowdStrike issue affecting Windows machines,” said senior vice president and chief communications officer Dalya Qualls White. “We understand this issue has been inconvenient for our employees, our members, and our communities, and are actively working to restore systems. We will provide up-to-date and accurate information as we learn more.”

Certain online systems and customer service functions are experiencing disruptions or delays, including our websites, portal, apps and customer service phone lines. We will continue working to restore them to full operation.

Service to members and providers, including filing and paying claims, may be temporarily affected due to member and provider online portals being down. Our phone service lines for members and providers are currently unavailable.

Appointments with patients may be impacted by the systems going down, but we encourage members who have health care services already scheduled to continue as planned or reach out to their health care provider with questions. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, please call 911 or visit your nearest ER.

We will continue to provide updates as we learn additional information. For more details, please continue visiting BCBSTnews.com or follow us on social media.
